FAQ AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

What should I wear?

Just come in something that does not restrict your movement (ideally a T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms & trainers). Also remember to bring a bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated during the class.
If you become a regular member then you are expected to wear a member’s suit which is available from your instructors.

Do I need any previous Martial Arts experience?

No. Experience is always beneficial but it is not a necessity. In fact it can be an advantage not to have any experience, as you will not have any habits that you may have to break (or unlearn) at a later stage.

Do I have to be fit to start classes with you?

No. You should, however, be careful of any injuries and conditions you already have that may be adversely affected by participating in any physical activity. If you are in any doubt you should consult your doctor before training.

As you progress, your fitness will improve.

Is this class suitable for women?

Yes, it is. We have women and girls training with us.

Are there any age restrictions?

Yes. We only accept students aged 6 – 65 years old.

What is the class format?

This varies but as a rule we start with a basic stretch and light warm up (10-15 min’s only). Then we go through forms and basic solo drills followed by partner drills or syllabus. We may finish some sessions with sparring and pad work.

Do you have grading and/or belts?

Yes. You will have to pass a grading assessment before progressing onto the next level of your training in that class.  Please see the syllabus page for more information.

When can I start?

You can contact us at any time to arrange a free class. If you would like to start then let us know so we can arrange a start date for you.

At the moment, we are currently offering new students one free trial class. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Do I need a licence and insurance to train with Leverage Freestyle Martial Arts?

When a student joins up with us at Leverage Freestyle Martial Arts the monthly fee entitles the student to train at any of the classes, provided fees are up to date. Included in the start-up fee is a club suit and a licence, which is renewable annually.  This enables the students to take recognisable grades and provides insurance which covers each student in the unlikely event that any harm may be caused to or by them

Do I need any equipment?

We have sparring gloves, head guards and foot pads for new comers to use on the first few visits to the club. Then students are expected to provide their own pads, gloves, head guards, foot pads and skipping rope, or we can buy them in for you if you prefer!
